Towards a simple API for exchange of educational information

APIs for exchange of data between universities and third-party front-end applications (mobile apps, portals, etc) are becoming more and more common. Using these APIs, all kinds of new applications can be built using data sources like personal grades, course information, personal schedules, and library information. Due to the lack of easy-to-use standards in this area, however, many universities are currently defining their own, incompatible APIs. In this talk, I will show the first results of a SURFnet project that aims to define a standard API for Dutch universities to open up their data.
