Stephen Pinfield is Senior Lecturer at the University of Sheffield's Information School. He has research interests in scholarly communication, research data management and digital library development, and has carried out considerable work in the last 10 years on open-access technologies and policies. Until September 2012, he worked as an information practitioner, latterly as Chief Information Officer at the University of Nottingham, managing a converged IT and library services department. There he was founding Director of the Nottingham Centre for Research Communications which carries out research and development in scholarly communication. As CIO at Nottingham, he was also involved in regional academic network development (as company Chair of the East Midlands Metropolitan Area Network which runs the academic network for the English East Midlands area) and UK national infrastructure development (as a member of the Janet6 Advisory Group, overseeing the procurement of the next-generation academic network for the UK).
