WDM-PON as efficient Campus and Metro Infrastructure

Abstract: This paper describes passive WDM (pWDM) and WDM-PON as means for cost-efficient campus and metro connections from NREN backbone sites to high-performance customer sites. We explain the evolution between and timeline behind the steps from pWDM to a fully autonomously operated WDM-PON which allows high transparent reach and per-channel bit rates between 1 Gb/s and 10+ Gb/s. Keywords: passive WDM, WDM-PON, access infrastructure.
